Synopsis:

The world’s best-stocked toy drawer can only take a gal so far. Bored with her current assortment of vibrating, plastic pieces, Sam Wallace decides to add a new sex toy to her collection: Kevin Mazze. The sexy Italian is more than happy to help her live out her long-held sexual fantasies, and trusting him with her body is easy. Trusting him with her heart, however, is not… especially when he commits an unforgiveable sin.

Kevin Mazze is one of the good guys. He’s spent his life always doing the right things and making those around him happy. When he meets the woman of his dreams, at the worst possible time, he finds himself making bad choices in the name of good and crossing lines he never thought he would… while praying she never finds out.

My Review:

Wildman (aka Kevin Mazze) hasn’t ever considered things like love at first sight, long-term commitment or, kids. Maybe he has thought about them in the most fleeting sense or with regards to his friends but not so much for himself. Hell, even his current girlfriend is more of an on/off thing that isn’t every going to go beyond sex. Until recently, Kevin has been content with his life and on occasion, even happy but lately, his fleeting thoughts have become less fleeting. Sam Wallace can do that to a guy.

The Pixie (aka Sam Wallace) is a tiny little force to be reckoned with. After her family and ex-husband totally sold her out, she and her adorable daughter packed their bags and headed out of town. After a lifetime in the construction business, Sam doesn’t take shit off anyone so Kevin Mazze shouldn’t still be invading her thoughts hours after she concluded her business with him. A sexy man like Kevin Mazze will do that to a girl.

While neither Kevin nor Sam are in a position for a relationship – he’s attached and trying to get loose and she is not ready for anything – they seem to gravitate toward one another. Their situation isn’t helped when Sam’s daughter, Kevin’s nephew and one badly sprained ankle conspire to put them together. The weekend is beyond fantastic especially after Kevin inadvertently discovers Sam’s drawer of toys. With endless possibilities and Sam’s willingness to experiment, the weekend is damn near perfect as far as Kevin is concerned. The only issue clouding his thoughts is the fact that he is still attached to on again-off again girlfriend. If the fates are merciful, Kevin will be able to get free of the awful girlfriend and be free to pursue Sam without Sam ever knowing she was the other woman even if only briefly.

As you might expect, the fates aren’t at all merciful and before Kevin knows what’s hit him, Sam finds out about the girlfriend and breaks off any and all contact. Though Sam knew nothing of the girlfriend, she has personal experience with cheating and becoming the other woman is a hard line she never intended to cross. Kevin may have been the perfect man but his infidelity is something may not ever be able to forgive. For Kevin’s part, he never, ever meant to put Sam in the middle of a bad situation and if she will give him that chance, Kevin intends to spend the rest of his life making her happy. Getting that chance will be as easy as polishing a turd.

The Bottom Line: I am so loving the Heat Wave series. Crossing Lines is the first of the books to revisit old characters and Kevin Mazze is an excellent place to start. Though most see him as a confirmed bachelor, Kevin actually harbors fantasies of a wife and kids of his own, a place he can call home. When Sam walks into his life, Kevin is ready to turn his life around and be the man he not only wants to be but the man Sam needs him to be. Sam is fantastically calm, cool and collected and though she has had a very hard time with those she once trusted, she is still willing to open herself up to new relationships. Some of the finest moments of this read are the intimate moments between Sam and Kevin. Sure, they are hot and sexy but these are also the moments that each begins to trust the other and open up about their respective pasts. Well, there is that one thing Kevin doesn’t share L In the end, Kevin blends into Sam’s world so seamlessly that when the most unexpected of sources comes to plead his case, Sam has no choice but to listen and offer the man she has quickly fallen for just one more chance. The Heat Wave series never leaves you hanging, the reads are relatively short, fun, sexy and, have a whole host of interesting characters. In all, Crossing Lines (and the other books too!) are sexy summer reads that will absolutely appeal to lovers of romance and HEAs.
