Synopsis:

Bad boy, Dane MacKenzie, is coming home to Surrender, Montana. It’s been ten years since he left the woman he loved behind to make a name for himself, and now he’s bound and determined to claim her once and for all.  But Charlotte Munroe has no desire to welcome home the Prodigal Son with a fatted calf. The bitterness of Dane’s betrayal runs deep, and she has no plans of letting him back into her life. Especially since she’s trying to protect the son Dane isn’t aware exists from heartbreak, since she’s sure he’s only going to walk out of their lives again.

My Review:

Dane MacKenzie has been gone from his home for ten long years.  He has travelled the world established himself as a preeminent writer willing to go where he must or needs to in order to get the story.  Even after all he has been through and all he has seen, Dane’s greatest fear is setting foot in his hometown of Surrender, Montana.  When he left ten years ago, Dane didn’t just leave his family he also left the only woman he has ever truly loved, Charlotte Munroe.

Charlotte Munroe never thought she would need to return to Surrender, Montana but when her father passed away someone had to come home and look after his ranch.  Her one and only love, Dane MacKenzie has been gone for years so Charlotte feels certain her secret will remain safe.  During the day, Charlotte works in her automotive garage and by night, she cares for her secret, her son.

Though neither Dane nor Charlotte ever thought there was a future for them everything changes the night Dane returns to Surrender.  Holy crap is it a homecoming to remember.  Even though the two haven’t see one another in ten years, the chemistry is still strong and thank the Lord, so is the desk in Charlotte’s office J  The reunion is explosive and intense and Dane is ready to commit to a future with the woman he still loves.  Charlotte is all kinds of glad to have gotten laid but a future with Dane is dangerous.  He left once and he could leave again at any time and this time, Charlotte has more than just herself to think about.

The Bottom Line: This is a fantastic second chance at love story with two hot characters and some even hotter sex.  Dane is such a softie (except for his body which is all kinds of hard!) and though he was a right sh*t for leaving Charlotte and Surrender the first time around, his reasons were valid and he thoroughly explains everything to her.  Charlotte is tough, resilient and willing to give Dane another chance as long as he stays true to his word and doesn’t hurt her son.  For two souls as perfect for one another as Dane and Charlotte are, the past can be overlooked and a happy future looked forward too.  Finally, Dane is also a very good introduction to the MacKenzie clan as a whole and was more than enough to hook me on the series.

Synopsis:

A CHRISTMAS WISH is a continuation of Dane MacKenzie’s story, DANE and it is highly recommended that you start with DANE since A CHRISTMAS WISH takes up where that novella ends. The response to the MacKenzie Brothers Novellas has been overwhelming, and I can’t tell you how much it warms my heart that you fell in love with this family. I’ve decided to revisit each of the brothers because of all the wonderful emails I’ve received over the past couple of years asking, “What happens next?”

Dane MacKenzie has made mistakes, but despite them all, he’s reconnected with the woman he’s always loved and the son he never knew he had. But things haven’t gone the way he hoped. Charlotte still hasn’t set a wedding date, and he’s a stranger to his son. The only thing Dane wants for Christmas is for them to be a real family.  A carefully planned seduction, an old legend, and a family that never gives up on each other will give Dane the chance to get his Christmas wish.

My Review:

**Contains Spoilers for Dane**

Christmas with the MacKenzie clan is a sight to behold and though Dane is perfectly used to it, Charlotte hasn’t been around so much crazy and fun in more than ten years.  As Dane’s girlfriend and mother to his son, Charlotte is totally willing to subject herself (once again) to the MacKenzie’s and the holiday spirit.  There are only two things holding Charlotte back and keeping her somewhat reserved is her uncertainty about marrying Dane and her son’s less than enthusiastic reaction to the news that Dane is his father.  Nothing like a HUGE family gathering to force all the issues, right?

Dane’s love for Charlotte and his dramatically increasing love for his son feels just about perfect.  Dane has made it clear to Charlotte that he is committed to her, their son and their future and wants nothing more than to make their union legal.  The single concern Dane has is how slowly his son is warming to him.  With ALL of the MacKenzie’s in the old family home for Christmas, Dane is hoping his son will warm up to everyone which will, of course convince his mother that she should marry his dad.  Sneaky MacKenzie!!  Thinking his plan is totally sound and ready to put it into action, Dane doesn’t consider all of the crap that can happen before he and Charlotte reach their happily ever after.

The Bottom Line:  I enjoyed this follow-up and continuation of Dane and Charlotte’s story.  The full family gathering is pretty cool and the drama that ensues is just right for the length of this read.  Hart ensures that her characters get into just enough trouble to cause a stir but not enough to be truly harmed.  The drama is just right for bringing Dane and Charlotte together and with the whole family gathered about it is a fine Christmas story indeed.

About the author and where to find her:

author - Liliana HartLiliana Hart spent five years teaching music in the public education system. She molded America’s youth, busted kids for smoking pot in the restrooms, and broke up illicit affairs behind the stage on a regular basis. (Liliana’s Addison Holmes Mystery Series, about a small town teacher who gets into a whole lot of trouble, is somewhat autobiographical, but she won’t confess to which parts).

Liliana began reading romance novels with all her new found free time, and when she ran out of things to read, she decided to write her own novels. The result was a 150,000 word thriller—a dazzling adventure—where the heroine was a thirty-year-old virgin assassin (Yes, you read that right). She couldn’t imagine why people weren’t knocking down her door to read it, but she persevered and began writing a second book. She finally got the hang of things, and eventually learned that losing one’s virginity wasn’t all that romantic after all. All of her books involve some kind of suspense (she just can’t help herself), laughter, and a lot of steamy sex.

Since the failure of her first attempt, Liliana’s books have won awards such as: The Daphne Du Maurier, The Suzannah, The Linda Howard Award of Excellence, The Maggie, and many others. Her affiliations include Romance Writers of America and Mystery Writers of America.

Liliana loves to cook, and is addicted to reading, Internet Boggle, kickboxing, and Bones. She lives in a big, rambling house in Texas with a couple of cats to keep her company. She loves to get emails from readers.

Enjoy the Adventures!
