Beau Montgomery is *not* the typical single dad for three reasons:
1. He’s rich and famous.
2. He needs a nanny, like yesterday.
3. He has no idea if eight month old, Mia, is actually his daughter.
Only, number three doesn’t matter to him, because he’s determined to give up everything to be a standup dad, including racing, partying, and his favorite vice-women. Until that is, he’s invited to race in Monaco–a dream he’s always had. Now, all those things he’d sworn to give up are at his fingertips, including the very inconveniently hot nanny, Landry Basnight, who’s traveling with him.
Landry Basnight *is* the typical college graduate for three reasons:
1. She’s broke and in debt up to her eyeballs.
2. She needs a job, like yesterday.
3. Nothing exciting ever happens in her life.
Only, number three is about to change, because she’s been hired by Beau Montgomery, son of Racing Royalty. Landry’s parents are big fans of the Montgomerys, while she couldn’t care less–all she wants is to make a dent in her student loans. However, that doesn’t stop her from falling in love with her little charge, nor does it make it easier to resist Beau’s charms.
Lines are crossed, and then forgotten as Beau and Landry grow closer, but when Beau’s ex-girlfriend, who is also Mia’s mother, shows up, everything starts to fall apart for the new couple.
Will their love weather the storm, or will Beau abandon Landry for the family he’s always wanted?
Beau Montgomery: brash, cocky, arrogant, man-whore with a penchant for fast cars, his buddies and, beer. Or so the world thinks. Oh sure, Beau loves his buddies and they totally hang out and play poker and drink some beer and he absolutely does have a thing for fast cars. He’s a highly successful racecar driver; of course he loves his cars fast but, man-whore, yeah right!! Some things just couldn’t be further from the truth if they packed their bags and tried to relocate.
Landry Basnight: driven, dedicated to her goals and her family, all-around sweet southern belle with not a mean bone in her body. All of that is totally true and then some; seriously, Landry is what my granny would have called pure as the driven snow. With college just behind her, a load of student loan debt and no job in sight, Landry is desperate to make her own way, to stand on her own two feet and not have to rely on her parents to help her make ends meet. With a strong work ethic and an abiding love for kids, Landry takes on a job she never saw herself having, nanny to the super-rich. Yet, her she is, nanny to the infamous Beau Montgomery’s beautiful little girl, Mia.
From the moment they meet, Landry and Beau are connected to one another and their chemistry is palpable but there are some serious issues that make even the thought of a relationship troubling. For example: Beau has a nasty reputation that he has done little to nothing to correct; though he loves her like she is his own, Mia may not be Beau’s biological child, Landry is a good girl who needs the job she has been given, Beau’s ex (and mother to Mia) is, at best a walking disaster with a nasty personality and, when has an office romance ever worked out. The obstacles facing them are colossal and despite all the reasons not to, Beau and Landry just can’t stay away from one another.
As if the situation weren’t already stressful enough, Beau has been offered the opportunity of a lifetime, to race in Monaco in a Formula One car!! As any working dad would, Beau packs up his daughter and the nanny and flies off for a month of racing, press conferences, parties and, some alone time with Landry and Mia. Playing house is nice, the sex is phenomenal and though things are generally good – Beau and Landry really get to know one another and Mia blossoms under all the attention – the real world is never far away and the past is always lurking. With the ex calling in on a regular basis to check on her daughter and plant seeds of doubt in Landry’s mind, Beau has to work double-time to convince Landry of his sincerity and his intense desire to have his HEA with her!
The Bottom Line: This series has just taken root in my heart and I can’t get enough. I read Burn for You in a single sitting and Facebooked Marquita Valentine at three a.m. with “Sweet bugger all, that was a fine read!” And. It. Was. For me, this read was all about Beau!! He is just not at all what you expect: sure he is slightly cocky and damn good at his job but he is also sweet, loyal, devoted, caring, damn fine and, will to do whatever it takes to protect those he loves. Beau had me whipped from the beginning with his kindness and care for Mia and Landry – he exhibits these traits with both his words and his actions. He also has a delightfully hard body and a filthy mouth, neither of which he is afraid to use – yep, love him even more for that J Sure, there are other characters in the book and I am good with them all (except the wretched ex!! She just sucks!!) but this is really all about Beau and I like how intensely the plot focuses on him, his past, his relationships and, his future. You sure don’t see Beau coming but once he arrives, it is game on!!
