Mia Devine plans over-the-top weddings for a living. So when it comes to her own nuptials, she spares no expense—hand engraved invitations, Vera Wang gown, luxury honeymoon in France. And since her fiancé is Tucker Branch, playboy heir and notorious flirt, local media is obsessed with every little detail.
Which is why it really sucks when he jilts her a week before the wedding.
Mortified, Mia wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity, right after blabbing to the world how fitting it is that Tucker will inherit a bolt and screw company, because that’s all he wants to do—screw, and bolt. And he doesn’t do either with much finesse.
When her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, she grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of a week in Paris alone.
She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.
The free-spirited musician’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn’t just a myth.
Nor is the simultaneous O.
The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy La Vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with him is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.
Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?
Top Five Things You Do When Your Rat Bastard of a Fiancé Dumps You a Week Before Your Wedding:
The inseparable part is one of the highlights of Frenched!! Not only is Mia absolutely adorable – some of the stuff she says in her inner monologue is laugh out loud funny – but Lucas is lickably hot and all kinds of sexy smooth. Lucas is so into Mia that it scares and confuses him as much as it does Mia and in an effort to ignore what they are both feeling, they have lots and lots and lots and lots of mind-blowing sex!! Seriously, I think some of the scenes might have actually blown my mind too J Under all the steamy hotness that is the sex, there are still the feelings that are growing between the Mia and Lucas and eventually they know they will have to acknowledge those feelings and deal with the inevitability of their parting.
The Bottom Line: It wouldn’t be good enough to say that I loved this read so let me go a little further. Harlow has a real knack for creating believable and relatable characters that do what everyone in the world does, tries to muddle their way through emotions and life in the best way possible. Mia and Lucas find themselves in a whirlwind affair that made me laugh and cry – yes, I said cry – and root from them from the moment they met. There is an inordinately large amount of sex (YAY!!!) in this book but Harlow manages, brilliantly, to vary it enough that each scene is fresh and exciting and in no way repetitive. Furthermore, the sex never overshadows or threatens to overtake the plot but becomes an integral part of it. In fact, the sex and the plot are seamlessly connected and one wouldn’t really survive without the other. In all, I found Frenched to be a ridiculously good read that I have already contemplated reading again. There are so many fine moments – both happy and sad – that pulled me in and had me totally immersed in Mia and Lucas’s world. I know it’s early in the year but I truly think Frenched is already on my list of top reads for 2014!!!
P.S. I LOVE lists too :))_
P.P.S. A note about the cover: the cover is just about as awesome as it can get and as an added bonus, it is actually a visual of one of the scenes in the book!!!
Melanie Harlow likes her martinis dry, her lipstick red, and her history with the naughty bits left in. I write New Adult historical and contemporary stories.
