Synopsis:

Jagger Kennedy never went looking for fame, he just fell into it. After scoring a major modeling contract, his clean-cut good looks and charm catapulted his career. But when his actress girlfriend breaks his heart, he moves to L.A. to try his hand at acting. He’s not looking for love—he just needs to make a change.

Aerie Daniels is a woman in control … until she meets Jagger. Her surprising connection with him leaves her dazed and it’s unlike anything she’s ever felt. But just when she lets her walls fall, she makes a startling discovery about Jagger that breaks her fragile heart into a million pieces.

To keep from losing the woman who’s changing his world, Jagger is willing to give up anything—including his career. But even that might not be enough to regain Aerie’s shattered trust…

Excerpt from Dazed by Kim Karr:

Aerie Daniels

There’s something deliciously perverse about staring through the clear glass. All of my senses engage as I wait in line—the fragrance that fills the air as the fire crackles beneath the foil wrapped treats wafts under my nose, the beauty in each and every small package as they line the shelves with tiny dots and colored sprinkles mesmerizes me, the sound made as the silver sheet is peeled back to reveal the magnificence it holds captivates me, and the anticipation of the taste makes my mouth water. Ummm… just thinking of the first bite into the moist brown exterior with its bittersweet Belgian chocolate complimenting the flavor of the Madagascar bourbon vanilla that oozes from  its inside has me trembling. The black and white cupcake—it’s simply perfection.

Amidst the skyscrapers in Los Angeles’ South Park neighborhood, Sprinkles is a gem tucked away for those of us who seek out a small piece of heaven. I don’t come here often, but when I do it’s for that one special treat. The menu describes it as, “Yin and Yang.” An ancient proverb that says, “Complementary opposites, such as light and dark, day and night, and masculine and feminine, seemingly may exist as contrary forces, but are actually interconnected.” Simply put, it says one gives rise to the other and it’s true—opposites attract. Without the vanilla inside, one could not possibly crave the chocolate outside—looking at the two parts united has me drooling.

“You know what they say about staring through the glass,” a deep husky voice says from behind me.

His words tingle my skin and my gaze snaps up. “Excuse me?” I stop short, in a daze, not even sure what he just said I was so lost in my thoughts.

He chuckles. “You know what they say about staring through the glass,” he repeats.

My eyes blink and come into focus on the upward tilt of his full lips. Then my eyes move to his smooth pale skin flecked with a light stubble, his nose seemingly sculpted even with a slight imperfection in its slope, large eyes with the most unusual gray color swirling from within, and chocolate brown colored hair framing his face in pieces—I’m not sure if he has just rolled out of bed or if product molds it just so. Either way, he is utterly beautiful.

“I’m sorry, I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Just be careful so you don’t fall in like Alice.” He smiles, displaying his bright white teeth.

“Again, I’m sorry but I have no idea what you’re talking about.” I notice his eyes sweep over me and my heart starts pounding.

“Through the Looking Glass,” he responds in a dangerously husky voice.  This time when he speaks I catch an accent, ever so slight but extremely sexy.  It reminds me of how Robert De Nero talks, just not as loud or fast. I continue to stare, unable to respond. I notice that his physique is long and lean. He’s dressed in worn jeans that fit him perfectly. His orange laced hiking boots scream I don’t conform. A pair of tortoiseshell sunglasses hang from the V of his gray sweater, which clings to his body perfectly. And an outdoor vest tops the outfit. It throws me off. It makes him look more like an Abercrombie model than a James Dean type. It’s a navy blue down and quilted one with a silver zipper. I don’t know why, but something about his outfit, about this man, captivates me.

“Number 98,” calls the girl from behind the counter.

He steps closer. His warm breath whispers across my neck. “Through the Looking Glass is the sequel to Alice in Wonderland. When Alice gets too close to the glass, she falls in and starts on a crazy journey,” he tells me as his arm waves in the air with a green ticket on display. Stepping closer, his gaze cuts from mine to the glass case as he hands his number to the clerk whose wearing a cute brown apron with the word Sprinkles scripted across it.

“Can I have a dozen of the black and white cupcakes?” he asks.  Suddenly alarmed, my eyes dart to the case as I watch the single remaining row of beautifully crafted cupcakes diminish until there are none left. My irritation flares as I glance at my number—97.  The beautiful stranger hands the clerk his credit card and waits to sign the slip.

“I was number 97, my number was before yours,” I say as he’s handed the bag that holds his treasure.  “Oh, I’m sorry. Here let me get the sales clerk’s attention so you don’t have to take another number,” he says.

I want to stomp my feet. I want to scream. I don’t want her attention. I don’t want another number. I want the cupcakes that he stole from me.  “Miss,” he calls draping his perfectly fit body over the case. She looks his way and with a charming grin he says, “Can you help this lovely lady? She missed her number being called.”

“Of course, I’m so sorry. How can I help you?” the girl asks averting her eyes from the man who looks like he should be on the cover of GQ magazine, over to me.  He smiles at me with a face that belongs on a billboard. “Don’t fall in.”  I swear he’s goading me. But then he tips his chin and a sexy, smoldering grin passes over his lips and I’m not so sure anymore. He turns to look at me one more time before he exits, and excitement flushes over my face. I nod a slight cursory acknowledgement, then he disappears and disappointment washes over me—he’s gone. Crap. The cupcakes are also gone. Double crap. And now I’m left wondering if he saw me staring at that flavor? Did he distract me on purpose so he could purchase them first? Urrr…I’m so angry right now I consider walking out, but when the clerk asks me what I’d like I settle for the Vanilla Milk Chocolate cakes—they are the mirror reflection of the black and whites, with vanilla cake and chocolate frosting, but they are not nearly as good.

Synopsis:

Mia Devine plans over-the-top weddings for a living. So when it comes to her own nuptials, she spares no expense—hand engraved invitations, Vera Wang gown, luxury honeymoon in France. And since her fiancé is Tucker Branch, playboy heir and notorious flirt, local media is obsessed with every little detail.

Which is why it really sucks when he jilts her a week before the wedding.

Mortified, Mia wants nothing more than to crawl under her newly monogrammed sheets and plan a funeral for her dignity, right after blabbing to the world how fitting it is that Tucker will inherit a bolt and screw company, because that’s all he wants to do—screw, and bolt. And he doesn’t do either with much finesse.

When her friends convince her that bitter tastes better when it’s drowned in Bordeaux, she grits her teeth and packs her bags, determined to make the best of a week in Paris alone.

She never planned on meeting Lucas Fournier.

The free-spirited musician’s scruffy good looks and less-than-sympathetic ear annoy her at first, but when she takes him up on his offer to show her around the city, she discovers that the romance of Paris isn’t just a myth.

Nor is the simultaneous O.

The last thing Mia needs is another doomed love affair, but since she only has a week, she figures she might as well enjoy La Vie en O with Lucas while she can. But each day—and night—with him is better than the last, and suddenly her heart is telling her this is more than a rebound fling.

Is it just the seduction of Paris…or could this be the real thing?

 My Review:

Top Five Things You Do When Your Rat Bastard of a Fiancé Dumps You a Week Before Your Wedding:

  1. You hide in your blanket fort for a considerable length of time
  2. You cut his rat bastard initials off all of your beautiful new monogramed linens
  3. You drink at nine a.m. – settling for Bailey’s in your coffee rather than wine
  4. You revisit all the lists you’ve made concerning the current debacle
  5. You pull your head out of your ass, listen to your two best friends and hop a plane to Paris to continue on with your honeymoon minus one rat bastardMia Devine is an event planner and her own wedding to Tucker Branch was meant to be the event of the year. After the shock and humiliation of being dumped wears off, Mia decides her best friends are right and she should look at the bright side . . .from her hotel room in Paris J Determined to enjoy her time abroad, even if it is alone, Mia wanders around taking in all the sights and sounds of the City of Lights. Too bad she also has to take in the sight of every effing couple in love and all their tiny little romantic moments. Pushed to her limit and determined to fly home the very next day, Mia walks into a bar and orders wine, a lot of wine. Turns out, she also orders a personal tour guide in the way of the scruffy yet totally hot bartender by the name of Lucas.Mia’s time with Lucas is nothing short of eye-opening, incredible, fantastic, panty-dropping awesome and most unexpected. Lucas has an incredible knowledge of the city (and a great many other things!), he is interesting, witty, funny, sarcastic and seems to have a real interest in Mia. Touched by his time and effort to help her enjoy Paris and move beyond the debacle that was to be her wedding, Mia is more than surprised to find herself feeling stuff (the naughty stuff!) for Lucas and not wanting her time with him to end. Turns out, Lucas is feeling much the same and for the next seven days Mia and Lucas are virtually inseparable.

The inseparable part is one of the highlights of Frenched!! Not only is Mia absolutely adorable – some of the stuff she says in her inner monologue is laugh out loud funny – but Lucas is lickably hot and all kinds of sexy smooth. Lucas is so into Mia that it scares and confuses him as much as it does Mia and in an effort to ignore what they are both feeling, they have lots and lots and lots and lots of mind-blowing sex!! Seriously, I think some of the scenes might have actually blown my mind too J Under all the steamy hotness that is the sex, there are still the feelings that are growing between the Mia and Lucas and eventually they know they will have to acknowledge those feelings and deal with the inevitability of their parting.

The Bottom Line: It wouldn’t be good enough to say that I loved this read so let me go a little further. Harlow has a real knack for creating believable and relatable characters that do what everyone in the world does, tries to muddle their way through emotions and life in the best way possible. Mia and Lucas find themselves in a whirlwind affair that made me laugh and cry – yes, I said cry – and root from them from the moment they met. There is an inordinately large amount of sex (YAY!!!) in this book but Harlow manages, brilliantly, to vary it enough that each scene is fresh and exciting and in no way repetitive. Furthermore, the sex never overshadows or threatens to overtake the plot but becomes an integral part of it. In fact, the sex and the plot are seamlessly connected and one wouldn’t really survive without the other. In all, I found Frenched to be a ridiculously good read that I have already contemplated reading again. There are so many fine moments – both happy and sad – that pulled me in and had me totally immersed in Mia and Lucas’s world. I know it’s early in the year but I truly think Frenched is already on my list of top reads for 2014!!!

    P.S. I LOVE lists too :))_

P.P.S. A note about the cover: the cover is just about as awesome as it can get and as an added bonus, it is actually a visual of one of the scenes in the book!!!

Title: Coming Home
Series: Vol. 1: Doorway to Heaven
Author: Erotic Storm
ISBN: B00IYRY2BE

Synopsis:

“Doorway to Heaven,” is a story about David and his girlfriend Liz. Events, time and distance have them separated for most of the year. On infrequent occasions, they have a chance to get together. David broaches the idea that they should partake of sex chats. He knew that he would be able to find the time for her on most days. Liz was not against the idea, as they knew of another couple who did it when he was away working in the mines (coal). David was prepared to give anything a shot to keep her from wandering. He knew as an air hostess for a national carrier she would be hit on a lot. This story is one of those sex chats and how he has mastered the art of giving her sexual gratification between the times when they can get together.

For those of you who are not aware of what a sex chat is, it’s a typed version of phone sex or cam sex. However, as you will see it is very detailed and descriptive in nature, more so than phone and cam. Why would it be more detailed you may ask? Because the writer has to convey the message using only one medium, that’s of the written word. But unlike voice and no vision the written medium has one very distinct advantage, the imagination.

Purple GoodreadsSynopsis:

What if the only thing standing between you and certain death was the spirit of someone long dead?

Avery Lane, a plucky grad student, is determined to discover the fate of the colonists from sixteenth century Roanoke. Nearly one-hundred twenty souls vanished without a trace in August 1597 and their demise has remained a mystery to world’s historical experts.  Aided by a ghost from that time, Avery is certain that she is closer than ever to the truth, but soon discovers that some people will stop at nothing to keep the secret buried. Can Avery find the answers she seeks before it’s too late?

Source: Author

My Rating: 5/5 stars

My Review:

Avery Lane is dedicated to her research to the exclusion of all else including her long-term boyfriend.  For Avery, there is no half-way, there is all or nothing and she is absolutely certain her theory on precisely what happened to the colony and colonists of Roanoke will turn her entire field upside down and secure her future.  All Avery needs is the support of her mentor, Dr. Jonas Allen and given their good working relationship, that meeting should go smooth as silk.  So, why in Hell did Dr. Allen kick Avery out of his office and refuse to allow her to pursue her Roanoke research?

Every the determined one, Avery decides that Dr. Allen does not see the value in her research for one simple reason; Avery just didn’t provide enough proof.  With her head down, her mind made up and, her best friend Jen helping her with the research, Avery reloads and returns to Dr. Allen only to be fired as his graduate assistant and somewhat scared by his reaction to her work.  Additionally, as her research has continued, Avery’s home is violated by vandalizing intruders and she is nearly run off the road.  How in Hell can the questions Avery is posing about the lost colony of Roanoke be causing so much trouble?  As I mentioned before, Avery is dedicated to her work and refuses to allow vandals and a prima donna professor to dissuade and/or hinder her research.

Roanoke Vanishing just wouldn’t warrant the 5 star rating I have given it if there weren’t even more drama piled on top of the crap sundae described above.  Here’s the skinny:

1)   Jen: Avery’s best friend is acting weird.  Though she is helping Avery with the research and sounding like she is on board with Avery’s crazy theory, there are the mysterious phone calls and absences that just aren’t quite like Jen.

2)   Elinor:  Now isn’t she just the insightful one?  Elinor seems to know things about Roanoke that the history books don’t and she encourages Avery to keep digging and keep looking because the truth is all there is and all that matters.  Elinor points Avery in the right direction on more than one occasion and warns her, multiple times of the danger uncovering the truth will bring.  Furthermore, Elinor has a very nasty habit of appearing and disappearing before Avery can ask all the questions she has for her mystery guest.  Even more troubling?  Avery seems to be the only person who can see and/or hear Elinor.

3)   The Descendants: their name and wonky/creepy symbol just keeps showing up and Avery is sure they are behind all of the awful that just keeps raining down on her.  Though she has questioned Elinor about the Descendants and tried every avenue of research she can come up with, Avery is at a loss as to who these people are, what they want and, why they would be hindering her researching into a century-old mystery.  The only certainty is that they are bad people with ill intentions.

4)   Ethan: though he is a bright spot amid all the drama, he is a boy and therefore goes into the drama list.  🙂  As an employee of the Roanoke Visitor Center, Ethan helps Avery gain access to parts and pieces of the Roanoke mystery that she would not otherwise have.  He is cute and he is helpful and on more than one occasion, he saves Avery’s butt BUT (you see what I did there??) he is a distraction Avery isn’t at all sure she wants in her life.

The Bottom Line:  I loved every single page of this read!!  Roanoke Vanishing is one of my favorite types of reads: the past barrels into the present and the present plows into the past culminating in one crazy historical fiction read.  Seal has masterfully blended the past and the present in alternating chapters: as Avery is researching in the present (one chapter) the “real” story is playing out in the past (alternate chapters).  Seal has managed to bring the Roanoke colonists to life and as we watch their drama play out from their perspective, Avery is fighting for her research and her life in order to bring the Colonists and their story into the world. The fully-developed characters in both the past and the present just suck you in until you are out of pages and finally know what happened to them.  Furthermore, though there are some sparks between Avery and Ethan, there are no naughty bits and I swear to you, you will not miss them at all.  There is more than enough drama and action throughout to carry you through from start to finish.  As if all of this weren’t’ enough, Seal has cooked up a terrifyingly exciting and wholly unexpected ending and that doesn’t even include the damn bombshell she drops in the last few pages!!  In short, this is a great read and an excellent start to what should be a very exciting series.  With a solid plot, good characters and, the exclusion of naughty bits, Roanoke Vanishing will appeal to mature YA readers and older.

Sneak Peek into Fight for Me by Bethany Bazile:

Alexis

Not many people were in the gym, but my eyes were immediately drawn to Ryder anyway, so the place could’ve been empty as far as I was concerned. His flexing muscular body, his sharp jabbing movements, and his excellent form paralyzed me.

I gaped at him as if in a helpless trance. I couldn’t get my feet to move toward the exit. His dark hair was drenched with sweat. His muscles tightened and strained as he slammed his fist into the huge bag over and over again.

How does he manage to be even more appealing while violently mashing a bag and sweating profusely?

He’d grown a little dark scruffy hair on his strong jaw overnight. His tanned skin looked so smooth and enticing. I wanted to run my hands over the ridged valley of his abdomen, and feel the warmth of his skin under my tongue. He was the perfect recipe for disaster, and I was aching to be destroyed by him.

His muscles were tightly cut everywhere, and I wondered just how well shaped he’d be under those shorts. As if on cue to my ogling him, he stopped hitting the bag, and turned his head toward me. A wild rush of heat flowed through my body as he smiled at me.

Oh, shit.

He knew I’d been checking him out. No-I’d been standing there practically fucking him with my eyes.

He nodded his head toward the door, ordering me to come into the gym. Damn, I wished I hadn’t let my hormones rule me, and made the quick escape I’d planned. I’d spent way more time than sane smelling his pillow this morning, imagining what it would be like waking next to him. I could already feel my common sense leaving me as I approached the door and met him halfway across the room.

He stopped in front of me, crowding me with his big body. I could feel the energy radiating off his skin. Maybe it was all the testosterone in the room that had me feeling so dazed. It had to be caused by something more than his cocky smile and sparkling baby blues.

He bit his lower lip, his eyes traveling over my dress, making me feel naked. My nipples pebbled as though he’d caressed them with more than a hungry gaze.

Ryder

It was her.

She gazed at me with those bright hazel eyes, and I was thrown back the night she’d opened them and looked at me like I was everything she needed.

The look she gave me now was different. Her gaze was predatory and hungry. Her lip parted in a really quiet gasp as she stopped to stare at me.

Fuck, why was she looking at me like that?

She had changed. Gone was the pale faced, frail girl who was strapped to the hospital bed. My gaze traveled over her tight shirt and tiny little sleep shorts.

Perfect perky tits.

Small little waist.

Smooth creamy legs.

If I had a checklist, it would take me days to check off each part of her I would’ve liked to lick. Then I’d pull those long silky legs around my waist and…

Look away, Hayes. You don’t need to get a hard-on in your dad’s kitchen for his step daughter.

She yanked her too short shirt down in an effort to cover her exposed navel ring. Pulling it down over that smooth expanse of skin only pressed the shirt tighter against her chest, and my gaze shot up to her pebbled nipples.

Fuck this.

I needed to get out of there-and quickly. I’d never wanted a woman as much as I wanted to take this one. It had always been this way with Lexi, but it had definitely increased in intensity. I almost didn’t give a fuck David was in the room.  I wanted to push her against a wall and make her beg me for it.

Women didn’t usually affect me this way. Being a fighter kept me too busy to think about women, but Alexis always had a way of distracting me. Don’t get me wrong I liked to fuck. And often. But the shit she was stirring inside me was not something I was used to. Avoiding her attempts to push her way into my life had been a good decision. I always had a soft spot for Alexis and now it was mixed in with full-blown lust.
